Back in June or July of 2017 I began a sketch of Alien. It was to me a daunting piece. I was taking my time on this to say the least and wanted the final to reflect on the attention I was paying to detail and to the shadows. Below is the original sketch and following it are the finished products. The Alien rendering was done using Cold Press illustration board a mechanical pencil using leads H through 9B and Ebony woodless pencils.

Recently Glynnis Garcia a hairstylist, colorist and Makeup Artist in Nashville, TN came to me looking for a new logo for rebranding her business. Glynnis had a solid idea of what she wanted and something new to the game as well. Glynnis was part of a group on Facebook that is for mentoring Hairstylists and related professionals with branding and promotions. She told me up front that she’d be submitting my prototype designs to this group for feed back. Cool. Glynnis wanted something sleek, current and would appeal to a her targeted demographic. While this is not new, it was nice to have a client who’d put this much effort into what she wanted. After a few prototypes she decided to avoid color and went mono chromatic for her logo’s color scheme. To me this was a good idea, it would give her logo a memorable timeless look. Font wise she was wanting something striking but wanted to avoid anything too bold, I had the perfect font in mind ATO Bondoluo Peek. We now had our bones down, color, font, and overall look. We knocked out a few more prototypes which were met with positive reviews from her FB group. In the end we produced a classic and in my opinion a very eye-catching piece for her brand. Her Facebook group made up of like minded professionals gave Glynnis some major props. Should you need your hair done or Makeup you can find Glynnis at https://www.facebook.com/GgHairDesigns and at http://www.glynnisgarcia.com if you’d like to hire me for you logo or design needs by all means leave me a message or text me at 615-977-2695.

Last night was my Pre–birthday. As I write this I’m 47. Which is better than not making it to 48. I went to dinner with a pretty redheaded friend of mine named Dale and we had a few drinks at a cool little place called Rosemary and Beauty Queen followed by a late dinner at Dino’s (my first time, go there folks). played around for a bit with photography and afterwards I drove to East Nashville to quickly shoot a building that had captured my attention, a church of all things . Enjoy the photos.

It has begun, the Drawloween Challenge. 31 original illustrations for every day of October. Last year was my first and it was a blast participating. I turned my drawings from last year into a 24 page 6″x6″ book called Jerry Winnett’s Little Book of Horrors, and yes. it is for sale. I plan to do the same with this years batch of drawings as well. I’ll be putting up a link where you may purchase last years and this years collections.

When I was 16 I read one of my favorite scary books, Stephen King’s It. The monster under the bed, the boogey man, the evil clown, the dreaded stranger who looks to kidnap and kill. All of these child hood terrors wrapped into one truly creepy clown haunting a city’s sewer and abandoned places, a creature who lives on eating kids and their fear! While I loved the book and later the Audiobook (first only released in Europe), I detested the made for TV movie. To me it lacked the bite the book had (pun intended). Finally after 27 years It was remade and yes, It was everything I wished for.
So is it any wonder I along with many other artists have done an homage to Pennywise? Here is mine. If you look at it and think to yourself “Hey, Jerry. Your Pennywise looks like a combination of Tim Curry’s portrayal and Bill Skarsgård’s rendition”! If you did say this you’d be absolutely “Keeeerect”! It is! I wanted a combination of both portrayals of Pennywise! How could I not? So below is a day by day progression of Pennywise the Dancing Clown.
I’m going to be in art show at the end of September called Monsters and Merriment. I’ll be displaying some old and some new works for this show. Right now I’m playing around with an idea of doing some Old School Horror such as Frankenstein, Dracula, the Mummy etc. Below is a sketch of Frankenstein, it’s not bad it is still subject to change. Enjoy the sketch and I hope to see you at the show.
